Feeling stuck after a spiritual awakening?

Have you noticed it lately?

That strange, heavy feeling of being… paused. Not sadness. Not despair. Just a kind of emotional flatline that makes everything feel harder than it should.

I’ve had more conversations than I can count in the last couple of weeks with people here in Eureka Springs, AR about exactly this. They’ve tried all the usual things that help  meditation, nature time, movement, connection but nothing seems to be landing in quite the same way.

It’s as if life has gone into a holding pattern.

I am calling this - The Spiritual Layover.

The boarding call hasn’t come yet. You’re in the spiritual layover — a pause between what was and what’s next. Here’s how to navigate it with your heart leading the way.

What Is a Spiritual Layover?

A spiritual layover is that uncomfortable in-between phase where the journey isn’t over, but the forward motion has slowed to a crawl. You know you’re heading somewhere. You’ve done a lot of work to get this far. But right now, you’re sitting in the waiting area wondering when the boarding call will come.

And here’s the thing: the layover isn’t a punishment. It’s part of the plan.

Just like in travel, there are seasons in life where we have to stop, recalibrate, and prepare for the next leg of the journey. Sometimes that feels restful. But often, it feels like we’re stalled.

Why It Feels So Uncomfortable:

Part of what makes the spiritual layover so challenging is that we’re used to motion. We’ve been trained to believe that growth should always feel forward moving. But real transformation often has pauses built into the process.

During these pauses:

  • Old patterns are being dissolved

  • New pathways are being integrated

  • Our energy is being finetuned for what comes next

It’s not always comfortable, especially when what we thought we wanted or planned for doesn’t match what our heart is now asking for.

The Heart Takes the Lead

One of the big shifts I feel happening in this layover season is the transfer of leadership from the mind to the heart.

For so long, the mind has been the boss. It’s set the goals, tracked the progress, and managed the timelines. But now there’s a new leader coming online - the heart.

This change can be disorienting. The mind still wants to manage things. It wants clear answers and predictable steps. But the heart leads differently. It works in resonance, alignment, and timing that can’t always be rushed.

And that means some of the things we thought we wanted may no longer fit. The layover is a chance to feel into those changes without forcing the next move

Why Portal Energy Can Amplify the Layover

If you live in an energetically charged place like Eureka Springs, Sedona, or Mount Shasta, the layover may feel even more intense.

Portals amplify energy - not just the beautiful, inspired energy, but also the uncomfortable, unsettled waves. Living in a portal is like sitting closer to the speakers at a concert. You feel everything more strongly.

Eureka Springs, with its limestone bedrock, mineral springs, rich history, and sensitive community, is a place where energy gets turned up. That means the collective layover feeling might be especially strong here.

How to Work With the Layover Energy

This season isn’t about pushing harder or fixing yourself. It’s about staying steady while the next boarding call lines up. Here are a few ways to navigate:

  1. Ground in the body Spend time in nature. Move gently. Give yourself space to feel your physical presence again.

  2. Support your nervous system Warm baths, deep breathing, and quiet time can help regulate your energy when the mental noise gets too loud.

  3. Give emotions a place to land Journal, talk with trusted friends, or channel your feelings into creativity. This isn’t about bypassing what you feel, but letting it move through.

  4. Stay connected to what nourishes you Surround yourself with people, places, and practices that help you feel balanced.

The Boarding Call Will Come

It’s tempting to see the layover as wasted time, but this pause is part of the journey. It’s preparing you for what’s next, even if the details aren’t clear yet.

Love is the frequency that will clear you for boarding when it’s time. The more we stay rooted in that, the more aligned we’ll be when the gate opens.

So if you’re feeling stuck right now, you’re not alone. The flight hasn’t been canceled. You’re just in the layover. And when it’s time to board, you’ll be ready.
