How to follow your heart

When everything in me said “stay home,” my heart said “go.” This is the story of what happened when I trusted that quiet voice inside - despite exhaustion, doubt, and fear. A rainy forecast turned into sunshine, strangers became soul connections, and a pop-up event became a turning point. Sometimes, the universe is just waiting for us to say yes.

When Your Mind Says “Cancel” and Your Heart Whispers “Trust”

There are moments in life when everything logical inside of you screams “no.” When your body is tired, your brain is foggy, the forecast looks grim, and your inner critic starts listing all the reasons you shouldn’t follow through. That was me on the morning of Pride weekend in Eureka Springs.

I had signed up for a local pop-up, but by the time the weekend arrived, I was exhausted. Mentally, physically, energetically - just... done. My mind made a strong case for staying home: You don’t have the energy. You’ll be stuck outside in the heat. No one will come. You need rest. Just cancel. And honestly? It made sense.

But something quieter inside me nudged forward.

A whisper.

Show up anyway.

It wasn’t a booming voice or a lightning bolt of inspiration. Just a gentle inner tug from a part of me I’ve been learning to trust more and more: my heart.

Against the mind’s protest, I loaded the car, showed up, and what unfolded was nothing short of magic. The predicted bad weather never came. I was offered a perfect indoor spot - without even asking. Strangers helped me unload and set up. And throughout the weekend, I was met with joy, connection, and abundance.

I sold a major piece of art. I met people who saw me—not just my work, but me. And something cracked open. For the first time in what felt like years, I had the energy to engage socially, to be present, to enjoy myself. And that’s no small thing, especially after the “great reset” I’ve been navigating since the pandemic—a spiritual, emotional, and nervous system level awakening that’s changed the way I interact with the world.

The core lesson? Surrender isn’t weakness. It’s wisdom.

When we surrender to the heart, we’re not giving up - we’re giving in. To trust. To flow. To that deeper current beneath the surface noise of our thoughts. The mind is a brilliant tool, but sometimes it protects us from the very thing that wants to bless us.

That weekend reminded me that listening to my heart didn’t just lead to a financially successful event - it gave me exactly what I didn’t know I needed: proof that joy, connection, and vitality are still available to me. I just have to show up.

So here’s my nudge to you: the next time your mind tells you to cancel, pause and ask - what does my heart want? Sometimes the most life-affirming choice isn’t the most comfortable one. It’s the one that asks you to trust.

And when you do?

The universe just might meet you there - with open arms, unexpected miracles, and a big ol’ cosmic “yes.”
